LinuxCon && XDSA – Day 2 0

Today was the last day of LinuxCon and Xen Directions South America. I’ve to say it was an awesome experience. I learn a lot and met very interesting people from all over the world: From developers to sysadmins. Brazilian living in Switzerland, American living in UK, etc.

For me was a very enriching event. I talked to a lot of interesting people, to know what they do at work, in their open source projects and the technology and process they use at work. And at the end of the second day I realized that in Chile we are about 4 o 5 years behind from the world class. I saw this in both small and big details. For example, for a mid-size company in Chile, a small farm of servers has 5 to 7 physical servers. Here in Brazil, has 15 to 20. And nothing to say about world class: more than 2800 physical servers. And yes, they bought for the same price we do it in Chile.

I’m not sure what to think about all this. Why in Chile is so different? What makes us different from the rest of the world? Why we always level down in Chile? Is it because of the minimum effort law? I’m not sure…

However, this is not a complain, but in this trip I realized that what is world class in Chile.. I don’t know, isn’t world class for the rest of the world. And that’s awful.
